Brockton Rox News Release
NASHUA, NH- After winning the first two games of a four-games series with the Nashua Pride, the Brockton Rox stumbled tonight as the Pride knocked out a season-high 18 hits to snap a six-game losing streak while handing the Rox a 12-2 loss before a sellout crowd of 2,929 at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH. The Pride scored six runs in the third inning to blow the game open. Pride DH Bryan Duplissie had four hits including a HR and two doubles in the Nashua victory. The Rox had just three hits in the game after pounding 36 in the first two games of the series. CF Brad Rosenblat finished 2-3 with a solo HR for Brockton. Olympic Skier Bode Miller played left field for Nashua and while he finished 0-2 in the game with two strikeouts, he made three putouts in the field. The Rox are now 31-28 overall and 7-6 in the second half. Brockton's loss gives them an 0-11 record on Saturdays in 2006.
The Rox scored first in the game on a double-play groundout off the bat of DH Guye Senjem. However, the Pride stuck for two runs in the bottom of the first against RHP Joey Baker. RF Jayson Bass had his fourth hit in a Pride uniform in the past two days, an RBI double to tie the game, and C Tommy Rojas drove home a run with an RBI single putting the Pride in front. Rosenblat homered in the third to cut the lead to 3-2 Nashua, but the Pride struck for six in the third. 2B Tom Creighton had a two run double off Baker, and RHP Tom Rispoli allowed a three-run HR to 3B Andy Dillard.
One bright spot for Brockton was the 2006 pitching debut of RHP Zach Strong, who threw a 1-2-3 seventh inning in just his second pro pitching performance. Strong has played in 32 games for the Rox as a third baseman and right fielder, but will also serve as a member of the Rox bullpen. Tomorrow, the Rox and Pride square off for the final time in 2006 as RHP Brad Guy (4-2, 3.18 ERA) takes on LHP Jarrad Lavergne (2-4, 4.74 ERA) at 2:05 PM in Nashua.
