Worcester Tornadoes News Release

WORCESTER, MA- The Worcester Tornadoes took game two of a double header with the New Jersey Jackals in front of a record setting crowd of 3,693 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. Starting pitcher Alex Pena pitched very well for the Tornadoes and his teammates provided ample run support and strong defense in the 7-1 victory.

The Tornadoes opened up the scoring with a 4-run second inning off Jackal's starter Joe Orloski. First baseman Chris Colabello led off the inning with a double down the left field line. With one out, DH Jabe Bergeron singled to right-center scoring Colabello. After a Patrick Perry walked in his first at-bat since returning from an extended stint on the disabled list, second baseman Austin Wasserman singled home Bergeron. Center fielder Lucas Taylor advanced the runners to second and third with a bunt before Josh Beauregard hit a big two out, two run single to right.

The Tornadoes extended their lead with a single run in the third, and finished their scoring effort with two more runs in the fifth inning. Worcester's balanced offensive attack featured six batters recording at least one RBI. Beauregard led the Tornadoes with three hits including a double and two RBI. Colabello and third baseman Brian Rios also had multi-hit games for Worcester.

Pena finished a night of strong pitching for the Tornadoes, following Greg Montalbano's one-hitter in game one with a five-hitter of his own. The lone threat by New Jersey was in the sixth when they pushed across their only run of the game. Jackals shortstop Guillermo Reyes started the inning with a walk and scored on an RBI double by catcher Jason Belcher. After a fly ball and a groundout, the inning ended with a spectacular defensive effort. Tornadoes right fielder Keith Beauregard robbed second baseman Joe Mihalics of extra bases and saved a run with a running catch on the warning track in right-center.

Pena improved to 3-1 on the year with the complete game effort. He struck out four while walking three. Orloski took the loss for the Jackals, giving up seven runs on twelve hits in his five innings of work.
