New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ "" The New Jersey Jackals continued to struggle with the bats, scoring only one run and tallying six hits, in two games, as the Worcester Tornadoes tore them up in both games of a doubleheader.

In game one, the Jackals were one-hit by the opposition for the second time this year, both by the Worcester Tornadoes. Behind their lackluster offense, and Greg Montalbano's sensation performance, Worcester topped the Jackals 2-0.

The game began poorly for the Jackals and starter Raul Valdes. In the first inning, Chris Collabello took Valdes deep for a two run blast, putting the Tornadoes on the scoreboard first. The homerun was all Worcester needed to top the Jackals and their non-existent offense.

Worcester starting pitcher Greg Montalbano took a no hitters into the final inning of the ballgame, until Wilton Veras singled up the middle with one out. After a walk to Joe Mihalics in the second, he retired the next 15 batters in succession, bringing a no hitter in the seventh inning. He was the winner for the Tornadoes.

The loss went to New Jersey's Raul Valdez. He allowed two earned runs in six innings, on six hits, while walking none, and striking out none.

In game two, the Jackal offense again did not show up, as they fell by the score of 7-1.

Fans saw more hits by the Jackals in the first two innings of the second game, than they saw in all game one. New Jersey had two hits through two innings, but again no runs.

Worcester put up a big inning versus Joe Orloski in the bottom of the fourth, something that has plagued him all season. They touched up Orloski for four runs. Jabe Bergeron and Austin Wasserman both had RBI singles, while Josh Beauregard's single drove in two. At that point, the Tornadoes led 4-0.

They added to their lead in the next inning on Keith Beauregard's sacrifice fly, which scored Ricardo Cordova.

The Tornadoes broke open the ballgame in the bottom of the fifth with two more runs off of Orloski. An RBI double by Chris Collabello, and an RBI single by Pat Perry did the damage.

The Jackals scored their first run in 20 innings during the top of the sixth. An RBI double by Jason Belcher made it a 7-1 Worcester advantage, and that would be the final score.

Joe Orloski suffered the loss for the Jackals. In only five innings pitched, he allowed seven earned runs, on 12 hits. He walked one and struck out one.

Alex Pena notched the complete game victory. He surrendered one earned run on five hits, while walking three and striking out four.
