Nailers Surprise Fans with Ticket Delivery

October 12, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release

The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, sent some of their players out into the community today, as they complete preparations for Saturday night's season opener. Forwards Ben Farrer and Cam Fergus, as well as defenseman Peter Merth made their way through Wheeling, dropping off season tickets to a few of the local sponsors.

The day began at Scott College of Cosmetology, where the players were greeted by the entire staff with a warm welcome. Conversations were aplenty at this location, ranging everywhere from the team's play on the ice, to which teammate might look best with a new hair color or skin tone.

Next, it was off to Ogden News, and the folks at The Intelligencer, who do a fantastic job with their coverage of the team. Although beatwriter Shawn Rine was out preparing for his evening workload, the group did get to talk to some enthusiastic reporters about what will be expected of this year's team, as well as the impact it has on the community.

Coleman's Fish Market was the next stop on the journey, where the catch of the day turned out to be hockey tickets! With a lengthy line of hungry fish fans, everyone had their chance to converse about the upcoming season.

From under water to the greens, the day continued at Hole 'n Run, which was sure to be a joyous stop for the players, who spend most of their offseason time on the golf course. After handing off the tickets, Cam Fergus made his way straight to the practice green, where he holed his first try while sampling a new putter. While there, the guys ran into a youngster, who made sure to get the license plate frame autographed by the players.

For a quick change, the next stop on the journey was Julia Sheets' house. Julia is a season ticket holder, as well as a key member of Nailers Nation Plus, who recently got out of the hospital. Julia's house was well decorated for Halloween, and the players also got an introduction to her dog, Snuggles.

Finally, the trip concluded with a visit to City Hall, where Bob Herron gave a warm greeting. His knowledge of the players and the team were fantastic, and you can bet he will be glued to his radio on Saturday night for the opener.

The Wheeling Nailers will be continuing their efforts in the community this season, and would be happy to attend any schools, locations, or functions you may have in mind. For more information, contact DJ Abisalih at (304) 234-GOAL, or at pr@wheelingnailers.com.

The Nailers and Cincinnati Cyclones will open the season at US Bank Arena on Saturday night, with face-off scheduled for 7:35. Wheeling will open the season with four straight road games, before returning home on October 26th, for the first of two games against the Reading Royals. Nailers 2012-13 Ticket Packages are on sale now. Packages start at just $7.50 per game. Call 304-234-GOAL or wheelingnailers.com for more information.
