Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced two transactions, with both taking effect immediately. Forward Adam Payerl was recalled from loan by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and forward Alex Belzile was signed by the Nailers.

Payerl, 21, had a brief stay in Wheeling, as he was assigned to the club earlier in the week. Prior to joining the pros, Adam spent five seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts and Belleville Bulls. During that time, the Kitchener, ON native accumulated 58 goals, 82 assists, and 140 points in 302 games. At the end of the 2011-12 campaign, Payerl played in two games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, notching one assist.

Belzile, 21, is set to make his professional hockey debut, after spending each of the last three seasons with the QMJHL's Rimouski Oceanic. During that time, Belzile posted totals of 59 goals, 134 assists, and 193 points in 158 games, while helping to lead the Oceanic to the President's Cup Final in 2012. That year was Alex's most productive, as he recorded 70 assists and 92 points. In two preseason tilts with the Nailers last weekend, the St-Eloi, QC native dished out two assists, and had a plus-3 rating.

With the arrivals of Stefan Chaput, Philippe Lefebvre, Daultan Leveille, and Ian Schultz from Hamilton, that gives the Nailers a total of 23 players on their current roster. In accordance to league rules, three of the 23 players will be designated as "reserves", before the team takes the ice on Saturday night.

The Nailers and Cincinnati Cyclones will open the season at US Bank Arena on Saturday night, with face-off scheduled for 7:35. Wheeling will open the season with four straight road games, before returning home on October 26th, for the first of two games against the Reading Royals. Nailers 2012-13 Ticket Packages are on sale now. Packages start at just $7.50 per game. Call 304-234-GOAL or wheelingnailers.com for more information.
