ELMIRA, N.Y. - October 12, 2012 - The Elmira Jackals kick off their 13th season of professional hockey tonight as they host the Reading Royals at 7:05 p.m. at First Arena.

WHAT: Elmira Jackals Home Opener. Commemorative 2011-12 division championship stickers will be given away to all fans in attendance.

WHEN: 7:05 p.m.
Tonight is the first of 15 scheduled meetings between the Jackals and Royals this season. Eight of those 15 games will be played at First Arena. The Jackals are 36-23-7 all-time against the Royals and went 10-3-2 against their bitter rivals last season. Elmira also eliminated Reading from the 2012 Kelly Cup Playoffs by becoming just the seventh team in the history of the ECHL to come back from an 0-2 deficit in a best-of-five series. Elmira beat Reading 4-1 in preseason action this past Monday.
Jackals head coach Dwight Mullins will make his ECHL debut tonight when he leads the Jackals into battle. He was hired on September 24, 2012 after three seasons at the helm of the Central Hockey League's Allen Americans. While there he compiled a 128-51-17 record (.700 win percentage) and took the Americans to the CHL finals in his first year, the conference finals his second year, and the conference semi-finals last year. His season-opening roster includes 13 Jackals from the 2011-12 team that won a club-record 45 games and captured the Eastern Conference regular season title.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals are back on First Arena ice on Saturday, October 13, 2012 to take on the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. Come out for the great action on the ice and don't forget that 2012-13 magnet schedules will be given away to the fans in attendance.
