Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, OH) - The Toledo Walleye open their fourth season of play on Saturday night against the Kalamazoo Wings. Today the team finalized its roster for Opening Night. A full roster is attached.

Toledo will start with two 20-year-old goaltenders in Kent Simpson (assigned from Rockford) and Petr Mrazek (assigned from Grand Rapids). Mrazek (M'RAHZ-ik) started Toledo's final preseason game and made 19 saves on 22 shots faced. "Both of these guys are young but they are extremely talented," said head coach Nick Vitucci.

The Walleye have five forwards in camp through its affiliates as Andrej Nestrasil (ahn-dray, nes-tra-shil), Willie Coetzee (koht-zee), and Luke Glendening are assignees from Grand Rapids, while Byron Froese (FRAYZ) and Terry Broadhurst come from Rockford. They join Walleye signed forwards: Doug Clarkson, Todd Griffith, Travis Novak, Joey Martin, Kyle Rogers, Randy Rowe, Max Campbell, Jake Trask and Podge Turnbull.

"This is as talented a group of forwards as we have had here in Toledo," said Vitucci. "We have speed, toughness, and scoring punch all throughout this forward group."

The defensive core is anchored by returners Phil Rauch (RAWK) and Joey Ryan. Veterans Wes O'Neill and Phil Oreskovic (Or-es-ko-vick) will join them along with new faces Cody Lampl (lamp-ul), Dale Warkentin and David Starenky. "One of our goals this offseason was to strengthen our defense," said assistant coach Dan Watson. "This group has toughness and the ability to control our own zone. They are all good at moving the puck also to jumpstart the offense."

The Toledo Walleye will open the 2012-13 regular season on Saturday, October 13th at home against the Division Rival Kalamazoo Wings. 2012-13 Season tickets are on sale now online at www.toledowalleye.com, or by phone at (419) 725-9255.
