December 20, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has acquired forward Jacob Lagace from the Orlando Solar Bears, in exchange for future considerations.
Lagace, 23, is currently in the midst of his fourth full season of professional hockey, following a three-year junior career with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens and Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. In the fall of 2010, Jacob turned pro, as he joined the AHL's Portland Pirates, who at the time, were affiliated with the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo had previously drafted Lagace in the fifth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. In two seasons with Portland and the Rochester Americans, the St-Hyacinthe, QC native accumulated 20 goals, 23 assists, and 43 points. Last season, Jacob appeared in 57 games with the Bakersfield Condors, leading the team with 36 points. Thus far this season, he suited up in 26 games with the Orlando Solar Bears, tallying two goals, four assists, six points, and 25 penalty minutes.
Jacob Lagace is expected to join the Nailers next weekend, when they visit the Gwinnett Gladiators and South Carolina Stingrays. The rest of his new Wheeling teammates will battle the Evansville IceMen on Friday and Saturday at WesBanco Arena.
