
Murphy, Goldeyes Win Opener in Kane County

GENEVA, IL - The Winnipeg Goldeyes (12-13) beat the Kane County Cougars 13-2 at Northwestern Medicine Field on Friday night.
In the top of the second, Max Murphy singled through the left side leading off and took second two batters later on a single through the left side from Reggie Pruitt Jr. Kevin Lachance ripped a single down the left field line that scored Murphy with the game's first run. Deon Stafford Jr. made it 2-0 with a groundout to third that plated Pruitt.
After Goldeyes' starting pitcher Alex Manasa retired the side in order in the bottom of the second, the Goldeyes took a 5-0 lead in the top of the third on a three-run home run to right-centre from Murphy.
Winnipeg broke the game open with six runs in the top of the fourth. With the bases loaded and one out, Logan Hill ripped a groundball to third that resulted in a run-scoring error charged to Dylan Busby. Ian Sagdal followed with a bases loaded walk, while Murphy made it 8-0 with a sacrifice fly to left. David Washington capped the rally with a two-out, three-run home run to left-centre.
Kane County (13-12) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Galli Cribbs Jr.
Winnipeg answered back in the top of the sixth when Murphy slugged a two-run home run off the batter's eye in centre field.
Sherman Johnson's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth provided the game's final margin.
Manasa (1-1) earned the win, allowing two earned runs on six hits over six innings. Manasa walked one and struck out two.
Cougars' starter Koby Bishop (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on six hits in three and one-third innings. Bishop walked four and struck out two.
Landen Bourassa earned his first career save, pitching three shutout innings to finish the game. It was Bourassa's first appearance of the season.
All nine Goldeyes' starters had at least one hit.
