Pearl, MS --- Javier Guzman had four hits while Reid Gorecki homered for the second straight game as the Mississippi Braves took down the Carolina Mudcats 4-1 at Trustmark Park before 3,353 fans on Thursday night.

Guzman had his first four-hit game of the season, including an RBI-double in the fourth inning against Rick Vanden Hurk (L, 3-3) to open up a 2-0 lead. Gaby Sanchez drooped in a single in the fifth to score Chris Coghlan to draw the Mudcats (13-14) to within 2-1, but Gorecki hit the first home run of the season against reliever Jarrett Santos in the bottom of the eighth to provide the Braves (17-10) with insurance.

Thomas Hanson (W, 5-3) fanned eight over six innings to earn the victory. Hanson escaped a bases-loaded, one-out debacle in the first by fanning Lee Mitchell and Grant Psomas. Hanson had eight strikeouts in the outing.

Vanden Hurk permitted just five hits over six frames, whiffing eight and walking just one. One of Vanden Hurk's runs was unearned.

All-star closer Luis Valdez (S, 16) worked a perfect ninth inning to record his 16th save, fourth most in the Southern League.

Sanchez had two of Carolina's five hits, lifting his team-best average to .320.

Anibal Sanchez will make a major league rehab start Friday night against the Braves' Todd Redmond (8-4, 3.57) at 8:05 PM ET.
