Diamond Jaxx humbled in loss

(Jackson, TN) July 17th- Clayton Kershaw and two relievers combined on a three hit shutout as the Jacksonville Suns blanked the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx 8-0 before a Thursday night crowd of 1566 at Pringles Park. This is the first time the Diamond Jaxx have been shutout this season.

Kershaw (2-3) pitched the first five innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three to pick up the win. Lefty Scott Elbert allowed a hit and two walks over three innings. Eduardo Sierra completed the shutout with one scoreless inning.

Ivan DeJesus Jr. and Lucas May had two hits and two RBI's each to help lead the Suns offense. Russell Mitchell had three hits while Shane Justis and Jamie Hoffman chipped in with two hits each to help lead the fifteen hit attack.

Adam Moore had two of the three Diamond Jaxx hits. Brent Johnson extended his hitting streak to twelve straight games with a lead-off single in the ninth inning. Marshall Hubbard extended his on-base streak to forty five straight games when he walked in the seventh inning.

Doug Fister suffered the loss for the Jaxx, falling to 5-11 on the season. Fister allowed three runs (one earned) on nine hits over six innings of work.

The middle game of the five game series takes place on Friday night at 7:05 CDT. Right-hander Travis Chick (2-5 4.35) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Jacksonville will counter with righty James McDonald (4-2 3.19).
