Kershaw Leads Suns Shutout of Diamond Jaxx

JACKSON, Tenn. - Clayton Kershaw, Scott Elbert and Edwardo Sierra combined to scatter three hits while leading the Jacksonville Suns (45-52, 12-15) to an 8-0, Thursday night victory over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (50-47, 9-18) in front of 1,566 at Pringles Park.

Kershaw (2-3) dealt 68 pitches over five scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk with three strikeouts. The southpaw has won consecutive outings for the first time since winning three in a row May 29 through June 13, 2007 with the Great Lakes Loons of the Class-A Midwest League.

The Suns supported Kershaw with three runs against West Tenn starter Doug Fister. Lucas May doubled home an unearned run with two out in the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Ivan DeJesus, Jr.'s infield hit plated Adam Godwin in the second inning for a 2-0 advantage. Lucas May's sacrifice fly in the fifth inning opened the 3-0 lead.

Fister (5-11) pitched six innings allowing three runs, one earned on nine hits. The six-foot-eight right-hander walked three with four strikeouts.

Scott Elbert dealt three scoreless innings, allowing one hit with two walks and three strikeouts. Edwardo Sierra pitched a scoreless ninth to finish the shutout.

Jacksonville scored four runs in the eighth inning against West Tenn reliever Nelson Payano, including a Juan Gonzalez leadoff homerun (11). Ivan DeJesus, Jr. singled home his second run of the game with the bases loaded, while a bases loaded hit-by-pitch from Jamie Hoffmann and Mark Bellhorn groundout added runs. Ryan Rogowski scored in the ninth inning on a double play grounder to end the scoring at 8-0.
