Carolina Mudcats News Release

Zebulon, NC --- Jake Kahaulelio singled home the tie-breaking run as part of a two-run eighth to lift the Carolina Mudcats past the first-place Chattanooga Lookouts for the second straight game 2-1 before 2,348 fans at Five County Stadium.

Kahaulelio's single came on the heels of a game-tying groundout by Sean Henry as the Mudcats (14-19) finally broke through against Lookouts starter James Adkins. Adkins had been undefeated over four starts against the Mudcats this season, and carried a two-hit shutout into the eighth inning. The rally began on a single by Justin Tordi with one out, followed by a bloop double from Jason Bour, moving Tordi to third base. Pinch-hitter Zack Cozart drew an intentional walk to fill the bases before Adkins was relieved by Kendy Batista, who worked a full count against Henry before a broken-bat grounder to short scored the equalizer. Kahaulelio then singled to right field to score Bour, with Cozart being thrown out at home plate.

Tom Cochran pitched solidly over seven innings, yet received a no-decision. Cochran allowed six hits and just one walk while fanning five. The Lookouts (17-16) took a 1-0 advantage in the sixth inning on a two-out single by Gaby Martinez to score James Tomlin from second.

Ruben Medina (W, 2-4) earned the win in relief and also on his 23rd birthday by working a perfect eighth inning. Enerio Del Rosario (S, 1) notched his first Double-A save with a two strikeout, uneventful ninth inning.

The five-game series moves into game four on Thursday night with Camilo Vazquez (2-3, 5.44) starting against ex-Mudcat Tim Corcoran (3-6, 5.63) at 7:15 PM ET.
