Suns Take Ninth Straight Victory

Jacksonville, Fla. - The Jacksonville Suns (58-45, 23-10) overcame a 3-1 deficit following a fourth inning rain delay and rallied for a ninth consecutive win, a 9-3 victory over the Birmingham Barons (67-35, 19-14) in front of 2,553 Wednesday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Suns left-hander Sean West (6-3) picked up the victory, dealing five innings with three runs off six hits and two strikeouts. Marlins closer Matt Lindstrom made a rehabilitation start, dealing one perfect inning. Barons starter John Ely (8-2) fell in the loss, giving up four runs, three earned, and six hits over six innings of work.

Jacksonville opened the scoring in the second inning when Logan Morrison came in to score on a double play ground ball for a 1-0 game.

Birmingham jumped ahead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs for a 3-1 lead. Stefan Gartrell singled home a run, Christian Marrero's sacrifice f ly brought in the next and John Shelby's singled knocked in the third run for the Barons lead.

Jacksonville tied the game following a fourth inning rain delay. Mike Stanton led off the inning with a triple and later scored on a throwing error by the Birmingham catcher to cut the Barons lead to 3-2. Jacksonville tied the game on a Lee Mitchell sacrifice fly for a 3-3 score.

The Suns took the lead in the fifth inning on a Ryan Klosterman first pitch, leadoff homerun for a 4-3 score.

Jacksonville then put the game out of reach in the eighth inning, scoring five two-out runs in an eleven batter frame. Andy Jenkins knocked in=2 0the first two runs on a two-strike, two-out single for a 6-3 lead. Ryan Klosterman next tripled to drive in two more runs for an 8-3 advantage. Klosterman next scored on a throwing error by Barons third baseman Dayan Viciedo for a 9-3 score.

Jacksonville RH Cristhian Martinez will face Birmingham RH Daniel Hudson in game four of the series at the Baseball Grounds.
