Smokies Sweep Doubleheader over BayBears

MOBILE, Ala.-The Tennessee Smokies (16-17) earned the series victory and swept a doubleheader over the Mobile BayBears (15-18), winning 12-2 in game one and 8-1 in game two on Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
The Smokies outscored Mobile 20-3 in the two seven inning games, as Tennessee sweeps their first doubleheader of 2009. Welington Castillo, Jonathan Mota, and Ty Wright all hit three run homers during the night.
The Smokies won game one in a rout, 12-2. Tennessee scored eight runs in the first three innings, highlighted by home runs for Tony Thomas, Tyler Colvin and Welington Castillo. Castillo went on to hit two homers to bring his total to 10 for the year.
Andrew Cashner (1-1) picked up the win, tossing five innings while just allowing one run on three hits for his first victory in a Tennessee uniform and all of 2009.
The BayBears scored first in game two, as Orlando Mercado hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second. The Smokies retaliated in the top of the fourth, as Tyler Colvin hit a two-RBI double off Mobile reliever Daniel Strange to give Tennessee a 2-1 lead.
The Smokies added a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Jim Adduci to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
Hung-Wen Chen (6-8) used the support to get his sixth win of the season, pitching five innings and only allowing one run on six hits.
The Smokies added five runs in the seventh, highlighted by Wright's blast three run blast. Jake Muyco got the final three outs to give the Smokies the six run win.
Tennessee returns home to Smokies Park on Aug. 1 for five games against the Carolina Mudcats, the AA-affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. Tickets can be purchased by calling 286-2300 or by visiting www.smokiesbaseball.com.
