Carolina Mudcats News Release
ZEBULON, NC - The Carolina Mudcats and the Salem Red Sox split a pair of game before a crowd of 1,043 on Tuesday night at Five County Stadium. The Red Sox (20-15) scored an 8-6 before the Mudcats (20-16) walked away with a 3-1 decision in game two.
Jeremie Tice stole the show for the Mudcats' offense, launching a home run in both games. His first of the night was a solo shot that towered over the left field fence in the second inning of game one.
Tice launched his team-leading seventh round tripper of 2012 in the third inning of game two. The two-run blast gave Carolina a lead they would not relinquish.
J.D. Reichenbach (2-0) dealt three scoreless relief innings to earn the win in game two. Jose Flores notched his seventh save. Brandon Workman (2-1) suffered his first loss of the year with Salem after he allowed three runs in the third inning.
Dale Dickerson made his first start of the year in game two, tossing three innings. The right-hander allowed a first inning run thanks to two hits.
Salem's offense got to Mudcats' starter Mike Rayl (3-4) early and often in game one. The left-hander, who entered the game allowing one run or less in five of his last six starts, was chewed up for seven runs in two-and-two-thirds innings.
Marco Duarte (1-0) picked up the win in relief. The Hermosillo, Mexico, native threw two innings, and allowed one run. Mike Olmsted pitched the Red Sox out of a late jam for his seventh save.
Shannon Wilkerson paced the Red Sox offense in game one with two hits and three RBI. Sean Coyle launched a two-run homer in the first inning, and Michael Almanzar doubled in the third inning to plate a pair.
