Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Lynchburg, VA - Gus Schlosser, Caleb Brewer and Juan Jaime of the Lynchburg Hillcats (22-14) combined to allow just four hits as the trio bested the Wilmington Blue Rocks (15-22) on Tuesday night, 1-0. Santiago Garrido (0-1) took a tough-luck loss in his first Advanced-A start. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed just six hits over six innings, but gave up a homer to Robby Hefflinger at the start of the fifth inning that proved the difference. The Blue Rocks have lost nine of their last 13 games including seven one-run setbacks.
Schlosser (4-2) tossed seven innings to notch the win. Tossing from a sidearm angle, he retired the last 14 he faced before the Blue Rocks mounted their lone true threat in the eighth. Alex McClure's first extra-base hit of the season, a first-pitch double down the right-field line, began the frame against Brewer. Travis Jones worked a four-pitch walk and two outs later, a wild pitch put runners at second and third before Lynchburg intentionally walked Brian Fletcher.
Hillcats manager Luis Salazar then made the move to his closer, Jaime, with the bases loaded and Brett Eibner due up. Alas, the Rocks' home run leader struck out swinging to end the threat and Jaime notched two more whiffs in a scoreless ninth to bolt down his sixth save in as many tries.
The four-game series continues at 6:05 p.m. on Wednesday. Right-hander Greg Billo (3-3, 5.35) gets the nod for Wilmington against repeating southpaw Dimasther Delgado (1-1, 3.38). Broadcast coverage begins at 5:35 p.m. as studio host Rob Cunningham brings fans the Rocks Report Pre-game Show, presented by Wawa, on 89.7 WGLS-FM and online at wgls.rowan.edu.
