Mud Hens display power in win over Bulls

Durham, NC - Toledo and Durham hitters put on a show for the fans on Saturday combining for 33 hits, but in the end the Mud Hens would prevail, 13-7 on Saturday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

RHP Jae Kuk Ryu (2-2) held the Mud Hens scoreless through the first three innings, but the Mud Hens tagged him for six runs in the fourth inning. Ryan Raburn started the scoring with an RBI single before Chris Shelton put the Mud Hens in the lead with a three-run home run. Jack Hanrahan added a two-run home run to give the Mud Hens a 6-1 lead after the top half of the inning. In the sixth inning, Mike Hessman hit his league leading twenty-fourth home run to add two more runs. Ryu left after the inning, surrendering a total of eight runs on 10 hits and a walk with five strikeouts on the night.

Toledo starter RHP Yorman Bazardo (7-3) scattered 11 hits and two walks over six innings, surrendering four runs with seven strikeouts. Joel Guzman hit an RBI-double to give the Bulls 1-0 lead in the first inning. Durham loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, but only Jason Pridie managed to drive in a run as Bazardo was able to get two strikeouts to end the threat.

The Mud Hens stretched their lead with five runs in the top of the sixth inning off RHP Richard De Los Santos. In the bottom half of the inning, Ben Zobrist and Justin Ruggiano tallied RBIs to make the score 13-4. The Bulls added three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning as Jorge Velandia hit into an RBI ground out and Zobrist picked up two more RBIs with a bases-loaded double. Michel Hernandez was 4-4 for the Bulls on the evening.
