Mud Hens Carrera Named IL Player of the Week

TOLEDO, OH- Toledo center fielder Ezequiel Carrera has been named the International League's Batter of the Week, the League announced today.

Carrera is the third Mud Hen to be honored this season (J.D. Martinez, April 14-20; Hernan Perez, June 9-15).

Triple-A Baseball's top stolen base threat was at it again this week, leading the IL with four steals and nine runs scored. Carrera hit .407 over the past seven days with a pair of doubles and home runs. In addition to stolen bases, Carrera is among the League leaders this season in runs scored (3rd), on-base percentage (4th), and batting average (5th).

On Wednesday, Carrera was named as a starting outfielder on the International League All-Star Team at the upcoming Triple-A All-Star Game in Durham on July 16.

The 27-year-old is in his tenth season as a professional player. He joined the Detroit organization this past December as a free agent. He is a veteran of over 130 games in the Major Leagues with Cleveland (2011-13) and Philadelphia (2013). Carrera is a native of Guiria, Venezuela.The IL named Indianapolis Indians pitcher, and former Mud Hen, Adam Wilk Pitcher of the week.
