Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - A team in desperate need of some help received it from an unexpected source, Mother Nature. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) trailed the Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox), 6-3, when an existing rain turned into a downpour. With Corban Joseph due up and one out in the home fourth, a 51-minute delay ultimately resulted in the game's suspension.
The two clubs will pick up where they left off on Tuesday, July 8 at 5:35 p.m. The game will be played to a nine-inning regulation finish. A seven-inning game will follow. Tickets from Monday's affair may be exchanged for any RailRiders home game over the rest of the season.
The action that took place had starter Nik Turley post a perfect first inning while his offense plated three runs in the home half with RBIs from Zoilo Almonte, Kyle Roller and Adonis Garcia. The Knights responded by batting around in a five-run second. Andy Wilkins tied it with a three-run homer and Carlos Sanchez pushed the visitors ahead when his single up the middle scored IL All-Star Tyler Saladino.
Turley allowed a first-pitch homer to Josh Phegley in the third to round out the scoring. He was lifted in the fourth after successive two-out walks to Marcus Semien and Jordan Danks loaded the bases. Pat Venditte entered and induced an inning-ending groundout from Phegley. Turley allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks over his 3.2 innings.
The RailRiders stranded two men on base in the second and went down in order in the third against SWB alumnus Daniel McCutchen. John Ryan Murphy flied out to center in the fourth before the intensifying rains necessitated the tarp.
John Sadak and Aaron Berlin will have the call of Tuesday's two games on radio. The pregame show begins at 5:05 p.m. on NEPA Sports Radio -The GAME, Northeast PA's largest radio network: 100.7 FM, 1340 WYCK-AM, 1400 WICK-AM, 1440 WCDL-AM and 106.7 FM. The scheduled probables for the seven-inning nightcap have SWB's Chris Leroux (1-2, 5.19) matching up with fellow right-hander Erik Johnson (2-5, 6.50).
