LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Syracuse Chiefs (54-36) used a three-run sixth inning to come from behind and beat the Gwinnett Braves (42-49) 5-3 on Monday night at Coolray Field.

Syracuse took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning against former Chief Yunesky Maya. Emmanuel Burriss doubled to start the game and scored on a double by Steven Souza, Jr.

Phil Gosselin got the G-Braves on the board in the bottom half of the first. The third baseman doubled, moved to third on a fly-out and scored on a passed ball, tying the game at 1-1.

Souza, Jr. gave the Chiefs the lead again in the top of third, connecting for a triple to straightaway center field to score Burriss, who had doubled to start the inning.

Gosselin knotted it back up at 2-2 in the bottom of the third, smacking his fifth home run of the season off Josh Roenicke.

Gwinnett took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Jose Constanza laced a single up the middle, moved to second base on a groundout, stole third base and scored on sacrifice fly by Tyler Pastornicky, making it 3-2.

However, in the sixth inning, the Chiefs sent eight men to the plate and scored three runs to regain the lead. Maya walked two and gave up a single to Greg Dobbs to load the bases. The first run scored on a fielder's choice error charged to Gosselin, and Josh Johnson followed with a pinch-hit two-run double to put Syracuse ahead 5-3.

The Syracuse bullpen did the rest, as Matt Grace, Rafael Martin and Xavier Cedeno pitched four scoreless innings to preserve the victory. Roenicke (W, 4-4) earned the win, going 5.0 innings and allowing three runs on six hits. Cedeno (S, 2) pitched a scoreless ninth.

Maya (L, 3-3) took the loss against his former club. The right-hander went 6.0 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing five runs, two earned. He walked three and struck out three.

Offensively for Gwinnett, Gosselin paced the attack, going 3-for-4 with a homer and two runs scored. Todd Cunningham went 0-for-4, snapping his five-game hitting streak.

Souza, Jr. led the Chiefs with three hits and two RBIs. The 2014 International League All-Star is 5-for-6 with three extra-base hits and five RBIs in the series. Burriss added two doubles and two runs.
