RED WINGS GAME NOTES - Monday, July 7 (7:05 p.m.)

Buffalo Bisons (46-44) @ Rochester Red Wings (52-39) - Frontier Field, Rochester, NY

RHP P.J. Walters (2-0, 0.95) vs. LHP Sean Gilmartin (1-1, 4.50)

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Red Wings and Buffalo Bisons (Blue Jays) play Game 3 of their 5-game series tonight (7:05 p.m.) after the Wings opened the set with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday to improve to 3-1 on the homestand. With the twinbill sweep, the Wings have gone 8-1 over their last 9 games to move to just 2.0 GB of Syracuse in the IL North . Rochester still owns a 2.5-game lead in the Wild Card standings over Columbus and Indianapolis. Buffalo - in 3rd place in the North (7.5 GB) - has dropped 4 of their last 5 games after going 13-4 in a 17-game stretch from 6/18-7/2.

WITH A WIN TODAY, THE WINGS WILL...:

- The Wings will win the 5-game series over Buffalo and claim their 13th series victory of the season.

- Move to 14 games over the .500 mark for the first time since ending the 2006 season 15 games over (79-64)...The Wings high-water mark was 13 games over during the 2013 season (8/19; 72-59).

ON THE OFFENSIVE : Over the last 9 games, the Wings have scored 73 runs (8.1 R/G) on 107 hits (11.9 H/G) -- including 46 extra-base hits, 15 of which have been home runs (10 of which have come w/ runners on base). The Red Wings are hitting .319 (107-for-335) and have been even better with RISP batting .351 (34-for-97). Rochester has also had 11 innings in which they've scored 3 or more runs over the last 9 games.

- Just 10 days ago the Wings ranked T-9th (344) in the IL in runs scored. They now rank T-2nd (417) w/ Norfolk.

FOR STARTERS : Over the last 10 games, Red Wings starters are 7-0 with a 2.73 ERA (18 ER/59.1 IP) . The last starter to suffer a loss was Kris Johnson on June 26 @ LHV when he allowed one run over 7.0 innings in a 1-0 loss. The last starter who took the loss without turning in a quality start was Alex Meyer on June 23 @ BUF (3.2 IP, 4 R).

- The Red Wings completed a perfect trip through the rotation 6/29-7/3 with all 5 starters earning a win. It was the 2nd time in as many seasons Rochester has accomplished the feat. Prior to last year, they hadn't done in since 1998.

HOMER HAPPY : The Red Wings have hit almost 25% of their home runs this season over the last 9 games (15 of 61) . After ranking tied for last in the league in homers on June 29, the Wings now rank T-7th...Over this stretch, 9 different Red Wings have homered...Of the 15 HR hit over the last 9 games, 10 have come with runners on base...Of the 61 homers hit this season, 39 (64%) have come with at least one runner on and 18 (30%) have come with at least 2 runners on base.

- The Red Wings have hit 6 of the 22 grand slams in the league (27.3%) - including four of the last eight hit.

LEAGUE LEADERS: The Red Wings are currently leading the International League in both hitting (.273 AVG) and pitching (3.25 ERA) . The last time Rochester led the league in both categories for a full season was 1974 (.261 AVG & 3.06 ERA). Only 4 IL teams have led in both statistics in the last 50 years (Tidewater in 1986, '87 & '88; Rochester 1974).

FAMILIAR FACE: Former Red Wing RHP P.J. Walters makes the start against the Wings on Monday -- his second start vs. ROC this season (6/22; W; 5.0 ip, 6 h, r/er) and first against the Wings at Frontier Field. Walters is making his 4th start of the season for Buffalo after being acquired by the Blue Jays on May 26 from Kansas City where he had a 7.97 ERA in 10 G (8 GS) for Triple-A Omaha. Walters went 10-8 with a 4.12 ERA in 33 starts for Rochester from 2012-13 . He started Opening Day for the Wings each of the last two seasons -- including Opening Day 2013 in Buffalo.

- Walters went 7-5, 4.03 ERA in 20 career starts at Frontier Field for the Red Wings.

- Since being acquired by TOR, Walters is 3-0, 1.97 ERA (10 ER/45.2 IP) in 7 GS between Double-A & Triple-A

MOVING MONTH: The Wings have started the month of July going 6-1 in their first 7 games after going 20-8 in July in 2013 -- just the 6th, 20-win month for Rochester since 1980. In the Gene Glynn era, the Red Wings are now 44-20 in the month of July . Historically, July has been the best month for the Wings. Since 1980, July is the only month (excluding September) in which the Wings have a winning record (518-492).

HOME COOKIN': The Wings have won 6 of their last 7 at Frontier Field and now own the best home record in the IL at 32-16 (.667) . Only Sacramento of the PCL has a better home mark in all of Triple-A at 33-15 (.688). Since May 27, 2013, Rochester is 63-31 (.670) over their last 94 home games. After scoring 6 or more runs in 7 straight home games, the Wings are now averaging 5.17 R/G (248 R/48 G) at the friendly confines of Frontier Field compared to just 3.93 R/G (169 R/43 G) on the road. The Wings pitching staff has pitched to a 2.83 ERA at home (3.76 ERA on the road) with all 8 of Rochester's shutouts coming at Frontier Field.

TAKING TWINBILLS: The Wings swept their 4th doubleheader of the season on Sunday and improved to an IL-best 10-2 in twinbill games this season . No other team in the IL has more than 5 wins in doubleheader games. The last time Rochester swept 4 DH's in the same season was 2007. They also did it in 2006. The Wings next DH comes Thursday at SWB.
