Montero Hits 21st Home Run But Yard Goats Fall in New Hampshire

Manchester, NH - Yard Goats infielder Elehuris Montero hit his franchise setting 21st home run and Jose Gomez had three hits, including a single, double and home run but the Yard Goats lost to the Fisher Cats 8-5 on Friday evening at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. Hartford was down 4-0 in the fifth inning and came back and tied the game with a pair of two-run homers by Gomez and Montero. However, the Fisher Cats scored three runs in the seventh inning highlighted by an RBI double by Chavez Young and a two-run double by Kevin Vicuna.

The Fisher Cats scored three runs in the first inning with a two-out rally against Hartford starting pitcher Karl Kauffmann. The righty struck out the first two batters of the game, but Jordan Groshans and LJ Talley each followed with singles and Chavez Young walked to load the bases. Kevin Vicuna then cracked a single to center field, scoring Groshans and Talley to give New Hampshire a 2-0 lead. The Fisher Cats scored the third run on a double steal and Young came in to make it 3-0.

The Yard Goats cut the lead in half in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by Jose Gomez. The inning began by Matt Hearn working a walk against Fisher Cats starter Luis Quinones. Next, Jose Gomez blasted a two-run homer into the left field seats, making it a 4-2 game. It was Gomez' first home run as a Yard Goats player.

Hartford tied the game in the seventh inning as Elehuris Montero belted his franchise record 21st home run to make it 4-4. But, the Fisher Cats scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. New Hampshire started the inning with consecutive singles and then Chavez Young doubled home Jordan Groshans, giving the Fisher Cats a 5-4 lead. Kevin Vicuna followed with a two-run double, scoring LJ Talley and Young.

The Yard Goats continue the six-game series against the Fisher Cats on Saturday evening (7:05) in Manchester, New Hampshire against the Fisher Cats. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 FM and newsradio1410.iheart.com and the video stream available on MiLB.TV.
