
Rumble Ponies Quiet Sea Dogs' Bats

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies held the Portland Sea Dogs to one hit tonight as the Sea Dogs were shutout for the second time in the series, 8-0. Portland drops to 48-32 while Binghamton improves to 34-45.
Kole Cottam recorded the lone hit of the night for the Sea Dogs with a two-out single in the fifth inning. He also caught two baserunners attempting to steal second base.
Cole Gordon was awarded the win tossing 7.0 shutout innings allowing one hit and striking out 10. Andrew Politi was given the loss pitching 3.1 innings allowing five runs on four hits while walking five and striking out four.
Jake Mangum hit a double off the first pitch he saw from Andrew Politi in the bottom of the first inning then scored on an RBI single by Brett Baty and the Rumble Ponies led, 1-0.
In the bottom of the third, Mangum was hit by a pitch from Politi then moved to second when Nick Meyer drew a walk. A two-run single to left field by Carlos Rincon drove them both home, extending Binghamton's lead, 3-0.
Matt Winaker drew a walk in the bottom of the fourth inning then advanced to third on a single by Edgardo Fermin. Mangum then lined a two-run triple to the rightfield corner, and Portland continued to trail, 5-0. Mangum scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Meyer and Binghamton led, 6-0.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Winaker drew a leadoff walk then advanced to second on a wild pitch by Zach Schellenger. Mangum recorded his fourth hit of the night, an RBI single to left field. Baty then lifted a fly ball to left field. Leftfielder Wil Dalton dropped the ball, allowing Mangum to score and Binghamton led, 8-0.
The Sea Dogs and Rumble Ponies will meet again tomorrow, Saturday August 7th at 7:05pm. RHP Victor Santos (1-1, 4.50 ERA) will make his second start of the year for Portland while Binghamton will send RHP Oscar De La Cruz (1-4, 8.08 ERA) to the bump.
