LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
@ Portland (10/19): Center Andy Miele had a hand in all five of the Portland Pirates goals as they defeated the Manchester Monarchs, 5-3, at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Wednesday night. Right wing Jordan Nolan, center Marc-Andre Cliche and center Linden Vey all tallied goals for the Monarchs. The Portland goals were scored by defenseman Nathan Oystrick (two), center Andy Miele (two) and right wing Ryan Duncan. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones picked up his second loss of the season stopping 23-of-27 shots. Portland netminder Justin Pogge earned his first victory of the season making 21 saves on 24 shots. The Monarchs power play was 1-for-7. Portland was 3-for-6 with the man advantage.
@ Connecticut (10/21): Goaltender Cameron Talbot earned the shut out as the Connecticut Whale defeated the Manchester Monarchs, 5-0, at the XL Center on Friday night. The goal scorers for Connecticut were right wing Andreas Thuresson, right wing Mats Zuccarello (two), center Andre Deveaux and center John Mitchell. Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones took his third loss of the season making 22 saves on 27 shots. Manchester netmidner Jeff Zatkoff started the third period for the Monarchs making saves on all six shots he faced. Talbot picked up his first victory of the season stopping all 23 shots shots he faced. The Monarchs power play was 0-for-4. Connecticut was 2-for-5 with the man advantage.
@ Worcester (10/22): The Manchester Monarchs ended their six-game road trip with a 4-2 loss against the Worcester Sharks at the DCU Center on Saturday night. The Monarchs goals came off the sticks of center Cam Paddock and defenseman Jake Muzzin. Worcester's forward Nathan Noon, defenseman Matt Irwin and forward Mike Connolly (two) all scored in the victory. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff took his second loss of the season stopping 31-of-34 shots. Worcester netminder Harri Sateri picked up his first victory of the season stopping 25-of-27 shots. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Worcester was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (3-5-0-0) are in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with six points. The St. John's IceCaps (4-1-1-0) and Providence Bruins (4-3-1-0) are tied for first place in the division with nine points each. The Worcester Sharks (3-0-0-1) rank third in the dividsion with seven points. The Portland Pirates (2-3-0-1) sit in fifth place in the division with three points.
The Monarchs own a 2-4-0-0 record overall on the road this season and are 1-1-0-0 at home.

The Monarchs finished their six-game road trip on Saturday. They went 2-4-0-0 in the six games. The Monarchs won the first two games of the road trip before losing the next four.
Manchester was shutout for the second time this season, and first time on the road, on Friday night against the Whale.
The Monarchs surrendered three power play goals in a game for the first time this season in a 5-3 loss to the Pirates last Wednesday night.
Dropping their fourth game in a row on Saturday night, the Monarchs have tied the franchise's longest losing streak record.
The Monarchs have spent the most time in the peanlaty box in the league this season (191 penalty minutes). The team is avergaing 23.9 penalty minutes a game, ranking second in the league.
Monarchs center Andrei Loktionov is tied for third in the league with his team-leading 11 points this season.
Loktionov is tied for the league-lead in both assists (eight) and plus/ minus ratio (plus-7).
Right wing Jordan Nolan is tied for fourth in the league for plus/ minus ratio (plus-6).
Left wing Richard Clune leads the league with 48 penalty minutes this season.
Right wing Rob Mignardi played his first game in a Monarchs uniform against Worcester on Saturday night.
Monarchs rookie center Linden Vey scored his first professional goal in a 5-3 loss against the Pirates on Wednesday night.
Center Cam Paddock scored his first goal in a Monarchs uniform on Saturday night in Worcester.
Paddock's strike came just 17 seconds after Worcester forward Nathan Moon opened the scoring in the first period. The two goals combined for the fastest two goals involving the Monarchs this season. The fastest all-time mark is nine seconds and has ocurred twice in Monarchs history, most recently in 2007.
Defenseman Jake Muzzin leads all AHL and Monarchs defensemen with three goals on the season.
For the first time this season, a Monarchs goaltender was relieved by the back up. Netminder Jeff Zatkoff relieved goaltender Martin Jones following the second period in Friday night's game against Connecticut.
Jones is tied for third in the league with three wins this season.
MONARCHS PROMOTIONS
Canadian Heritage Night - The Monarchs will be celebrating the strong local ties with Canadian and Franco-American Heritage on October 29, 2011. The Monarchs will don a special Canadian-themed jersey for the occassion with the Monarchs Care Foundation auctioning off the unique jerseys at the game. Traditional Canadian and Franco-American foods such as poutine and Montreal smoked meat will be served to fans who attend the game. One of the Montreal Canadiens Public Address Announcers, Sebastian Goulet, will announce the game in French and English.
Mullets in Movember - The Monarchs have partnered up with the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and the Movember Foundation to bring back Mullet Night to the Verizon Wireless Arena as we raise awareness of the fight against men's cancers. Mullets in Movember will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2011 when the team hosts the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
