Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club traveled to Albany on Friday, beginning their first three-game-in-three-night stretch of the season. Despite allowing the game's first goal for the first time in 2011-12, HERSHEY came back with four unanswered tallies to defeat the Devils by a 4-1 score. Boyd Kane then scored for the second consecutive night on Saturday, but his power-play strike wasn't enough as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins claimed a 3-1 victory at Giant Center. Braden Holtby put in a solid 31-save effort despite the loss. Still looking for their first home win of the season, the BEARS used four power-play goals to get that win, a 7-0 blanking of the Syracuse Crunch. Dany Sabourin returned from Washington to post a 36-save shutout and help the offense with an assist, Mattias Sjogren scored his first North American professional goal in the game, and Julien Brouillette posted his first three points with the Chocolate and White. Dmitry Orlov scored his first goal of the year, and Andrew Carroll also posted his first helper this season. The BEARS head to Springfield and Adirondack this weekend before returning home to take on the Binghamton Senators on Sunday.

Two out of Three Isn't Bad

The BEARS opened up the weekend on a strong note, defeating the Albany Devils on Friday night by a 4-1 count at Times Union Center. Rookie Cody Eakin notched his second game-winning goal of the season in the first period. Following a 3-1 home setback to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday night, HERSHEY came out with guns blazing as the team took down the Syracuse Crunch by a 7-0 score on Sunday, earning their first win of the season at Giant Center. Dany Sabourin earned first-star honors with a 36-save shutout, while Chris Bourque scored the first of the BEARS' four power play goals on the night. Six players (Bourque, Jacob Micflikier, Julien Brouillette, Keith Aucoin, Cody Eakin, and Dmitry Orlov) all had multiple-point games.

High-Octane Power

The BEARS became the third team this weekend to score four power play goals in one game, with their 4-for-6 effort on Sunday. The team now has the most power-play goals in the AHL (13) and the second-best success rate (13-for-38, 34.2%). The 13 goals have added up during the last six consecutive games.

Blistering Bourque

With a goal and two assists on Sunday, Chris Bourque has points in all seven games played (5G, 8A) and now leads the league in scoring, power-play assists (5), power-play points (8), assists (8), and shots on goal (36).

Winning With Eakin:

Cody Eakin's game-winning goal on Friday at Albany was his second of the season, a mark which leads all AHL rookies and is tied for most overall.

Overworked Red Light:

HERSHEY has scored 30 goals on the season, averaging 4.29 goals per game (2nd in AHL).
