Hemby Cup Raises More Than $100,000 for Hemby Children's Hospital

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers and Presbyterian Hospital announced today that this year's Hemby Cup charity game and youth tournament raised $102,000 for Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital through ticket sales, donations and a post-game jersey auction.
The "Suits vs. Geeks" charity game involved employees from Microsoft playing against employees from area banks at Time Warner Cable Arena prior to the Checkers game Saturday. More than 500 fundraising tickets were sold, which included admission to the Checkers vs. Houston Aeros game later that night.
The Checkers wore specialty Hemby Cup jerseys which were auctioned post-game with proceeds going directly to the Hemby Cup Foundation.
Prior to the opening faceoff, four Hemby Cup Honorees, who are currently Presbyterian pediatric patients, were acknowledged during a pre-game ceremonial puck drop and cancer survivor and sixth-grader Madison Robinson sang the national anthem at both games.
Since 2001, Microsoft, Charlotte-area banks, community sponsors and Presbyterian Hospital employees have raised more than $800,000 to support multiple projects at Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital, including the Microsoft Park, an open-air playground for the patients of the hospital, the Arts For Life program and medical equipment, beds, toys, games and books for the facility.
