LAST WEEK ¬â¢S HIGHLIGHTS
At Charlotte (1/13): Center Corey Elkins and left wing Dwight King picked up two goals apiece to lead the Manchester Monarchs to a 6-4 victory over the Charlotte Checkers at the Time Warner Cable Arena on Thursday night. Along with Elkins and King, center Justin Azevedo and center Marc-Andre Cliche found the back of the net for the Monarchs. The Checkers picked up goals from center Brett Sutter (two), left wing Jacob Micflikier and left wing Oskar Osala. Monarchs goaltender Marting Jones (15-3-0) picked up his 15th win of the season with 32 saves on 36 shots. Checkers netminder Justin Pogge (13-8-2) stopped 22-of-27 shots in his eighth loss of the season. Manchester went 1-for-4 on the power play. Charlotte was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
At Charlotte (1/14): Three players scored shootout goals for the Charlotte Checkers, lifting them to a 6-5 victory over the Manchester Monarchs at the Time Warner Cable Arena on Friday night. Center Marc-Andre Cliche, defenseman Thomas Hickey, defenseman David Kolomatis, center Andrei Loktionov and defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov scored for the Monarchs. The Checkers picked up goals from center Zac Dalpe, center Cedric McNicoll (two), defenseman Brett Bellemore and center Jon Matsumoto during regulation. In the shootout, left wing Drayson Bowman, left wing Chris Terry and Matsumoto scored. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (10-11-2) collected his second shootout loss of the season, stopping 39-of-44 shots on goal in regulation and overtime while allowing three shootout goals. Checkers netminder Mike Murphy (10-7-2) earned his 10th victory while halting 35-of-40 shots on goal during regulation and overtime. Murphy also stopped all three Monarchs attempts in the shootout. Manchester went 2-for-8 on the power play. Charlotte went 0-for-6 with the man advantage.
At Binghamton (1/15): Goaltender Martin Jones halted 38 shots and the Manchester Monarchs came from behind to take a 4-3 victory over the Binghamton Senators at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night. The Monarchs collected goals from center Marc-Andre Cliche, center Corey Elkins, center Andrei Loktionov and left wing David Meckler. Right wing Ryan Keller, left wing David Dziurzynski and right wing Bobby Butler list the lamp for the Senators. Jones (16-3-0) earned his 16th win of the season with 38 saves on 41 shots. Senators netminder Robin Lehner (5-6-1) stopped 22-of-26 shots in his sixth loss of the season. Manchester went 0-for-1 on the power play. Binghamton was 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Manchester Monarchs (27-14-1-2) collected five out of a possible six points over the weekend to remain in first place in the Atlantic Division with 57 points. The Portland Pirates (24-12-4-1) sit in second place in the Atlantic Division with 53 points followed by the Connecticut Whale (21-16-2-5) with 49 points. In fourth place, the Worcester Sharks (19-16-2-5) have 45 points and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (18-19-3-2) rank fifth with 41 points. Bringing up the rear in the Atlantic Division, are the Springfield Falcons (18-19-1-3) with 40 points and the Providence Bruins (17-19-3-1) with 38 points.
Manchester ¬â¢s power play is ranked 13th in the AHL as they have scored 36 goals on 202 opportunities for a 17.8% conversion rate. On the penalty kill, the Monarchs are ranked 10th in the league as they have given up 30 goals when they have been down a man. They have been shorthanded 198 times this season and have an 84.8% penalty kill rating.
Defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov (9-23=32) leads the Monarchs in points with 32 on the season.
Voynov also leads AHL defensemen with 32 points.
Voynov is tied with center Andrei Loktionov (8-23=31) for the team lead in assists with 23 helpers each.
Loktionov leads the team in the plus/minus category with a plus-15.
Loktionov shares second place on the Monarchs with left wing Bud Holloway (13-18=31).
Holloway and left wing David Meckler (13-7=20) lead the team in scoring with 13 tallies each.
Center Oscar Moller (9-19=28) sits in fourth place on the Monarchs with 28 points.
Moller tied a franchise record when he recorded five points (1-4=5) in the Monarchs 7-3 win over the Bruins on December 31. He is only the second player in team history to record five points in a game. The other is center Jared Aulin who picked up five assists against Saint John in the Monarchs 7-4 win on December 21, 2002.
Moller is also in the midst of a 10-game point streak on home ice, recording a total of 19 points (8-11=19), eight goals and 11 assists, starting on November 14th.
Center Corey Elkins (12-14=26) is tied for fifth place on the Monarchs with left wing Dwight King (11-15=26). Each player has 26 points.
Center Justin Azevedo (12-13=25) is ranked seventh on the Monarchs with 25 points.
Azevedo is also tied for third place in the AHL in game-winning goals with four.
Center Marc-Andre Cliche (11-11=22) collected five points (3-2=5) in three games this week to move into eighth place on the Monarchs.

Cliche is currently on a four game scoring streak with six points (3-3=6) dating back to January 9 in Bridgeport.
Right wing Brandon Kozun (9-12=21) ranks ninth with 21 points.
Kozun is also tied with Azevedo for third place in the AHL with four game-winning goals this season.
Kozun is tied for 16th in the AHL among rookies with 21 points.
Left wing Richard Clune ¬â¢s 144 penalty minutes places him sixth overall in the league in the same category. Right wing Justin Johnson is ranked 16th in the AHL with 108 penalty minutes.
Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff has a record of 10-11-2 with a 3.31 goals-against-average and a 0.893 save percentage in 24 games this season.
Netminder Martin Jones has played in 22 games with the Monarchs and has collected a record of 16-3-0 with a 1.93 goals-against-average and a .939 save percentage.
Jones ¬â¢ 1.93 goals-against-average is ranked fourth in the AHL in that category and his 0.939 save percentage is ranked first in the league.
Jones has won his last three games.

Pink In The Rink - The Monarchs Care Foundation and Catholic Medical Center are teaming up for Pink In The Rink! The Monarchs players will be wearing specialty pink jerseys, use pink tape on their sticks and will skate on pink ice against the Binghamton Senators on January 22! The game will raise awareness and benefit the fight against Breast Cancer through the Monarchs Care Foundation, the Catholic Medical Center Breast Cancer Center and Dartmouth-Hitchcock ¬â¢s Norris Cotton Cancer Center.
