Canucks Recall Sergei Shirkov

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, today announced they have recalled forward Sergei Shirokov from the Manitoba Moose.

Shirokov, 24, has appeared in all 39 games thus far for the Moose. The native of Moscow, Russia is currently the team leader in points (33), goals (16), and is tied for the team lead in assists (17) and game-winning goals (3). With a goal and an assist in his last game as a Moose on Jan. 15/11 vs. Milwaukee, Shirokov established a new franchise record with a point in 12 consecutive games which is also tied for the second longest points streak in the AHL this season. He has collected 15 points (10g, 5a) in those 12 games. Shirokov was recently named to his second consecutive AHL All-Star Classic.

Shirokov has now played in 115 games in two seasons with the Moose where he's scored 78 points (38g, 40a) and 56 penalty minutes. He was Manitoba's second-leading scorer in his rookie season in 2009-10 with 45 points (22g, 33a) in 76 games and was awarded the team's Rookie of the Year Award. He has also appeared in six games with the Canucks where he collected two penalty minutes.

He was originally drafted by Vancouver in the sixth round, 163rd overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
