WORCESTER, Mass. - The Manchester Monarchs beat the Worcester Railers Sunday afternoon, 2-0, at the DCU Center.

The Monarchs (41-25-3-3) defeated the Railers (37-27-4-4), 2-0, and locked up second place in the North Division.

The Monarchs started the scoring at 16:08 of the second period on the 12th goal of the season by Sam Kurker. Zac Lynch gathered the puck in the right corner where he sent a pass to Kurker in the slot, where Kurker ripped a shot over the glove of Railers goaltender, Will King, to make the score, 1-0.

Manchester added an insurance goal on an empty-net goal by Michael Doherty at 18:39 of the third period. Doherty sent a shot from his own defensive zone, all the way down the ice into the open net, to give Manchester a 2-0 lead.

The Monarchs will open their playoff schedule on Friday, Apr. 13 (7 p.m.) in Manchester, N.H. when they take on the Reading Royals in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

NOTES:

The Monarchs will face the Reading Royals in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Evan Cowley made 24 saves on 24 shots.

Jake Wood, Tony Turgeon, Freddie DiChiara and Yanick Turcotte all received fighting majors.
