Monarchs Shave Roster By Six

MANCHESTER, NH- The Manchester Monarchs on Thursday released six players from their 2002 preseason roster. Five of the players were assigned to the Reading Royals of the East Coast Hockey League.

Sent to Reading were forwards Brian McCullough, Mike Pomichter, Brandon Dietrich, and Brad Rooney, and defenseman Antoine Bergeron. Also released by the Monarchs was defenseman Anthony Belza.

The 2002-03 Manchester Monarchs preseason roster consists of 26 players (13 forwards, 10 defensemen, and three goaltenders) after the latest round of cuts.

The Monarchs return to preseason action on Friday, October 4 when they travel north for a contest with the Portland Pirates. Game time at the Central Maine Civic Center in Lewiston, ME is set for 7:05 p.m.

Manchester next meets the Lowell Lock Monsters at the Salem ICEnter on Saturday, October 5. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. Tickets for the game are $8, and they can be purchased at the Monarchs ProShop (cash only) or at the Salem ICEenter.

The Monarchs embark on their second season at the Verizon Wireless Arena when they renew their regular season rivalry with the Lock Monsters next week. The puck drops at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, October 11, and the game will be broadcast live on WMUR Television with Charlie Sherman serving as the play-by-play host.
