
Penguins Sign Goaltender Mike Valley

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins today signed goaltender Mike Valley to a one-year, two-way (AHL/ECHL) contract. The announcement was made by Penguins' President Jeff Barrett.
Valley, 26, played in 16 games last season with AIK Solna (Sweden) and posted a 3.70 goals against average. Prior to last season, he played three seasons (1998-2001) in North America with Louisiana and Augusta of the East Coast Hockey League and Syracuse of the American Hockey League.
The 6'2", 185-pound native of Richmond, British Columbia was invited to training camp and has appeared in one preseason game this season with the Penguins. Valley made 50 saves in the Penguins' 2-2 tie at Binghamton on September 28.
The Penguins today also assigned goaltender David Chant to their East Coast Hockey League affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers. Chant, who was signed by the Penguins to a two-way contract (AHL/ECHL) on August 12, made 32 saves in the Penguins' 5-3 win over Binghamton on Sept. 27.
The 6'0", 188-pound native of Whitby, Ontario had a record of 25-10-8 and a 2.60 goals against average last season with Barrie of the Ontario Hockey League.
The Penguins will also host the defending Eastern Conference champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday (October 5) at 7:05 p.m. There are approximately 500 tickets still available for the game and tickets can be purchased at the First Union Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations and telephone outlets.
Ticket prices for the Penguins' 2002-03 season are set at $29.25 (Yellow Zone), $18.75 (Red Zone), $16.75 (Gold Zone) and $12.50 (Blue Zone). The First Union Arena Box Office is open Monday thru Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Payment accepted at the Arena Box Office includes cash, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa. The First Union Arena Box Office does not accept telephone orders or personal checks.

The Penguins, who are entering their fourth season in the American Hockey League, open the 2002-03 regular season against the St. John's Maple Leafs on Thursday, October 10 at 7:05 PM at the First Union Arena at Casey Plaza.
Tickets are still available for the Penguins' first two games home of the season. Approximately 200 tickets are still available for the season opener against the Maple Leafs and the Oct. 12 game versus the Hershey Bears (7:05 p.m. start).
