MILWAUKEE 8, CHICAGO 1

Rookies Darren Haydar and Andrew Hutchinson scored two goals apiece and Vern Fiddler added four assists as the Milwaukee Admirals (2-0-0) trounced the Chicago Wolves (0-2-0), 8-1, in an AHL preseason game in Rolling Meadows, Ill., on Wednesday night.

Haydar, 22, was the nation's leading scorer with 76 points at the University of New Hampshire last season. Hutchinson, 22, was an All-American defenseman at Michigan State as a senior in 2001-02.

Bryan Lundbohm (1g, 2a), Peter Smrek (3a) and Mitch Fritz (2a) also had multiple-point efforts for the Admirals, who outscored the Wolves 14-4 in two preseason meetings.

PROVIDENCE 7, SPRINGFIELD 3

Pat Leahy scored twice in a five-goal second period to help the Providence Bruins (1-0-0) to a 7-3 win over the Springfield Falcons (0-1-1) at Boss Arena on the campus of the University of Rhode Island on Wednesday.

The B's scored five times in the first 10:14 of the middle frame to take a 6-0 lead.

Pavel Rosa netted two goals and added an assist, and 2002 AHL All-Star Eric Healey picked up four points as the Manchester Monarchs (1-0-1) downed the Portland Pirates (2-1-0), 4-0, in Hooksett, N.H.

Rookie center Yanick Lehoux, who recorded 135 and 125 points, respectively, in his final two seasons of junior hockey at Baie-Comeau (QMJHL), opened the scoring with a power play goal.

Travis Scott (14 saves) and 2002 French Olympian Cristobal Huet (22 saves) combined for the shutout.
