
Monarchs Fall Short in 4-3 Loss to Sharks

MANCHESTER, NH - Chris Tierney scored twice as the Sharks extended their winning streak to seven games, beating the Monarchs, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
The Monarchs (26-10-3-2) lost for the third time in a week to the Sharks (20-14-3-2) after beginning the season 6-0-0-0 against them.
Ryan Horvat picked up the first goal of his pro career in the second period. He now has six points (goal, 5 assists) this season.
Matt Taormina scored his 4th goal of the season, giving Worcester the 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 5:57 of the first period.
Chris Tierney gave the Sharks a 2-0 lead with another power play goal at the 9:30 mark of the first period.
Worcester pushed the lead to three when Taylor Doherty scored on a shot from the blue line that found its way to the back of the net.
The Monarchs got in the scoring column at 11:27 of the second period with Andrew Crescenzi's second goal of the season, cutting into the Sharks' lead 3-1. It was his second goal in his last three games.
Worcester recaptured their three-goal advantage after Tierney scored his second goal of the game, making it 4-1.
The Monarchs responded at 18:30 of the second period when Horvat found a puck in the slot, and backhanded home his first career tally.
Kenton Miller brought the Monarchs to within a goal with his first of the season at 5:48 of the third period. It was his first career tally in the AHL.
The Monarchs are back in action on Jan. 23 in Providence, as they take on the Bruins at 7pm.
Notes:
* Paul Bissonnette's assist gave him points in each of his last three games (3 assists). * The Monarchs fell to 15-4-0-0 at home and 26-10-3-2 overall on the season. * With Ryan Horvat and Kenton Miller both scoring their first goals of the season, the Monarchs now have received a goal from 26 different players this year.
