
Sharks Win Franchise Best 7th Straight with 4-3 Road Win in Manchester

Worcester, MA. - The Worcester Sharks (20-14-3-2, 45pts) picked up their season high 7th straight win after a 4-3 victory over the Manchester Monarchs (26-10-3-2, 57pts) in front of 3,987 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon to conclude a 3-in-3 weekend.
Chris Tierney scored twice while Matt Taormina and Taylor Doherty also found the back of the net for Worcester as JP Anderson made 29 saves in net for the victory. Willie Coetzee added two assists as the Sharks tied a franchise record with their 7th win in a row tying the mark from March 16-31 in 2007.
Worcester charged out to a 2-0 first period lead with a pair of power play goals. Matt Taormina (5th) fired a wrister from the center point with traffic in front and the shot beat netminder Patrik Bartosak at 5:57. The Sharks grabbed a 2-0 advantage as Chris Tierney (6th) sent a backhander from on top of the crease into the net after a great feed from behind the cage by Daniil Tarasov. JP Anderson made 11 first period saves as the Sharks took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Playing in his 200th professional game, defenseman Taylor Doherty (2nd) gave Worcester a 3-0 lead with a blast from the right point at 1:15 of the second period. Goaltender Patrik Bartosak made several big saves while the Sharks were on a power play which led to a shorthanded tally by Andrew Crescenzi (2nd) at 11:27 after a nice rush down the right side and cut on top of the Worcester crease. Chris Tierney (7th) scored his second of the game with a wicked shot from 40 feet on a rush that went off the cross bar and into the net at 15:18. Ryan Horvat (1st) scored his first professional goal at 18:30 after he was alone in front of the net after a pass from behind the goal line. Worcester led 4-2 after 40 minutes as Manchester held a slight lead in shots 21-20.
Manchester got within a single score as Kenton Miller (1st) jammed home a loose puck after the net came off behind JP Anderson. After a long review the referees determined a good goal at 5:48 of the third period. The Sharks held off Manchester the rest of the way as JP Anderson made six saves in the final frame as Worcester won their third straight over Manchester.
The Sharks overall record improves to 20-14-3-2, 45pts, and 7-8-1-1, 16pts on the road this season.

Matt Tennyson and Melker Karlsson are still with the SJ Sharks .... the Sharks have points in eight straight games (7-0-0-1) to tie a franchise record... the Sharks kicked off a stretch of where they play nine of 11 on the road. ..Sharks forward Ryan Carpenter celebrated his 24th birthday...Taylor Doherty skated in his 200th professional game; all with Worcester and scored his first ever goal on the road... the Sharks had lost their last six games at the Verizon Wireless Arena... with the win, the Sharks moved into a play-off spot in the Eastern Conference.
