Manchester Monarchs News Release

LOWELL, Massachusetts – Pavel Rosa had two goals and an assist and Jared Aulin and Eric Healey chipped in with two points each as the Manchester Monarchs closed the 2002-03 regular season with a 3-1 win over the Lowell Lock Monsters on Sunday afternoon at the sold out Tsongas Arena in Lowell. The win was the 10th for the Monarchs in 12 regular season match-ups against the Lock Monsters this season, and the team-record 40th win overall for the Eastern Conference's fourth seed. Next up for the Purple and Gold: Round One of the Calder Cup Playoffs against the fifth seeded Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Saturday, April 12 (7:35 p.m.) at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The Lock Monsters avoided their second consecutive shutout against goaltender Travis Scott when Brian Cummings scored with just five seconds remaining in the middle period to make it a 3-1 game. But Scott, who earned his career-high 23rd win of the season with 26 saves, shutdown the Lock Monsters through a scoreless third period that featured seven stops.

Rosa notched his 28th goal of the season 15:16 into the middle period after precision passing from Healey and Aulin left goaltender Rob Zepp scrambling for position in the Lowell crease. Aulin started the scoring play by feeding Healey from the left circle. Zepp, anticipating Healey's shot, dove to his right. But Instead of shooting, Healey softly passed to Rosa who was patiently waiting on the backside of the crease.

Rosa earlier in the period registered his 27th goal of the season on the power play at 10:01. Aulin and defenseman Chris Aldous assisted on Rosa's right circle blast.

Healey's league-leading 42nd goal of the season pushed the Monarchs to the 1-0 lead through one period of action. Healey swatted a rebound left by Zepp into the Lock Monsters net at 16:53. Yanick Lehoux and Rosa assisted on Healey's goal, his 23rd in the last 33 games.
