Worcester IceCats News Release

WORCESTER, MA - The Worcester IceCats, who have already clinched the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs, closed out their regular season with a 2-1 loss to Springfield Sunday at Worcester's Centrum Centre.

Johnny Pohl scored Worcester's only goal. It was the rookie's 26th marker this season, and briefly evened the score at 1-1 in the second period. Pohl's goal not only tied the game, it also tied a record for most goals by a rookie. Peter Fabus and Fredrik Sjostrom scored for the Falcons, with Sjostrom's second period goal standing up as the game-winner.

Cody Rudkowsky took the loss in net for the 'Cats. Brian Eklund earned the win with 29 saves in his first AHL game.

The IceCats home-unbeaten streak was snapped at 10 games (7-0-3), just one shy of tying a franchise record.

The 'Cats open the 2003 Calder Cup Playoffs in Binghamton versus the Senators this Thursday, April 10th and Friday, April 11th. Worcester then hosts game three on Friday, April 18th and if necessary, game four on Saturday, April 19th. All games have a 7:05 PM start time. If the series goes five games, game five is slated for Tuesday, April 22nd in Binghamton.
