WILKES-BARRE, PA. (Saturday, April 5, 2003) - Toby Petersen tallied a third-period equalizer, and goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin stopped 39 of 40 shots as the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Penguins tied the Norfolk Admirals, 1-1, Saturday at First Union Arena.

Petersen, who entered the game with a team-high 28 goals on the season, picked a perfect time to tally No. 29.

Norfolk was clinging to a 1-0 lead, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was working in the waning moments of a five-on-four advantage.

Rookie left wing Matt Murley skated into the attack zone, reached the left face-off circle and slid a pass through the crease. Petersen, who was standing just to the left of Norfolk goalie Craig Andersson, took the feed and one-timed a shot home at the 9:42 mark.

Petersen's goal proved to be the last of the game, and the Pens left the ice with a five-game unbeaten streak and one more point in the standings.

Aubin, who shutout the Admirals, 2-0, on Friday, stood on his head for most of Saturday's contest as well. Only this time he was matched by the opposing netminder. Pens goalie Jean-Sebastien Aubin stopped 39 of 40 shots in Saturday's 1-1 tie with the Admirals.

Andersson stopped 30 of 31 shots during regulation and 11 during the extra frame, including a sprawling save with only :02.2 remaining to preserve the 1-1 tie.

Both goalies matched saves over the first 37 minutes of the game, but Norfolk was able to break the ice on defenseman Ryan Gaucher's tally with only 2:38 remaining in the middle period.

The goal, which was only Gaucher's third of the season, stood to be the game-winner. But Petersen and the Penguins had other ideas.

Before Saturday's contest finally came to a close, the Pens had already clinched a playoff berth, thanks to a 2-1 win by the Syracuse Crunch over the Rochester Americans. The 1-1 tie also propelled Wilkes-Barre/Scranton into the eighth spot in the AHL's Western Conference.

The Penguins will now shift their focus to the Philadelphia Phantoms, whom they will play Sunday evening in the 'City of Brotherly Love.' A win over the Phantoms will secure home ice for the Pens through their first round qualifying series. Game time is set for 5:05 PM.
