Manchester Monarchs News Release
Manchester, NH (AP) -- Manchester Monarchs center Scott Barney's shot off the leg of Saint John goaltender Levente Szuper at 13:18 of the third period proved to be the game-winner Friday night as the Monarchs defeated the Saint John Flames 3-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Saint John got on the board 4:04 into the second when Jason Morgan drew Monarchs netminder Travis Scott to the right side of the net before laying a pass on the stick of Robert Dome, who found the open net for a 1-0 Flames lead.
Manchester answered at 13:03 when Pavel Rosa skated down the right boards before putting a tape-to-tape pass on Yanick Lehoux's stick. Lehoux buried the puck top shelf past Szuper to knot things up at 1-1.
Manchester took a 2-1 lead 7:01 into the third period when Eric Healey crashed the net and buried a low shot past Szuper. Steve Kelly started the play at the red line when he stole the puck from a Flames defenseman and broke down the right side. Travis Scott also picked up an assist on the play.
Barney's goal gave Manchester a 3-1 lead that held up despite a late tally from the Flames' Garett Bembridge with less than three minutes to play.
Travis Scott turned aside 36 shots on "Travis Scott Bobblehead Night" at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Szuper took the loss for the Flames with 28 saves in the contest.. The North Division-leading Monarchs are now 18-5-3-3 while Saint John dropped to 9-15-2-1. The two teams face-off again Saturday night at Saint John.
