Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs fell in overtime to the Brampton Beast, 6-5, Friday night at SNHU Arena.
The Monarchs (29-14-6-4) dropped the first meeting of the season with the Beast (30-16-3-3), and look to rebound tomorrow night against the Alaska Aces.
The Monarchs opened the scoring at 3:53 of the first period when Eric Robinson scored his 2nd goal of the season and first as a Monarch. Thomas Schemitsch found Robinson in the slot for a one-timer that beat Beast goaltender, Zachary Fucale, five-hole, to make the score, 1-0.
Zac Lynch added to the Monarchs lead at 11:02 of the first period with his 14th tally of the season. David Kolomatis found Lynch crashing the net on the right wing for a one-timer that went top-shelf over Fucale's glove, to make it a 2-0 game.
The Beast cut into the Monarchs lead when Chris Leveille netted his 11th goal of the season at 13:54 of the first period. From the neutral zone, Leveille and Vallorani skated in on a 2-on-1 before Vallorani passed the puck to Leveille in the left slot where he put a one-timer past the blocker of Monarchs goaltender, Sam Brittain, to make the game, 2-1, Manchester.
The Beast tied the game at 14:49 of the first period when Chris Auger scored his 15th goal of the season. The rebound from a Connor Crisp back-handed attempt ended up on the stick of Auger, where he sent a backhander of his own past Brittain's glove.
The Beast took the lead, 3-2, when Leveille scored his second goal of the night at 6:34 of the second period. Vallorani threw the puck to slot from behind the net to Leveille, who found the puck caught in the skates of a Monarchs defenseman and scored glove-side on Brittain for his 12th goal of the season.
The Beast took a two-goal lead at 7:50 of the second period when David Pacan scored his 30th goal of the season. From the trapezoid, Brandon MacLean found a crashing Pacan in the low slot for a one-timer past Brittain.
The Monarchs made it a 4-3 game when Joey Diamond scored his 18th goal of the season at 5:11 of the third period. Matt Leitner, at the top of the right face-off circle, slid the puck to Diamond along the goal-line for a one-timer past Fucale's glove.
Leitner tied the game for the Monarchs at 14:00 of the third period when he scored his 11th goal of the season. Capitalizing on an unsuccessful clearing attempt by the Beast along the boards, Ed Wittchow grabbed the puck and found Lynch inside the left-wing circle. Lynch took a shot that was partially blocked, but the puck trickled to Leitner to the right of the cage, where he buried the puck to tie the game, 4-4.
The Monarchs took the lead, 5-4, when Gasper Kopitar scored his 7th tally of the season at 17:32 of the third period. Tim Bozon set up Kopitar in the slot, where he battled to put a back-hander through the five-hole of Fucale.
The Beast tied the game at 19:22 of the third period on David Pacan's second goal of the night and 31st of the season. From the right circle, David Ling threw the puck to Pacan where he just got his stick on the puck and tipped a back-hander past Brittain, to draw the score at 5-5.
The game could not be settled in regulation and went to overtime where 23 seconds in, Reggie Traccitto scored the game-winning-goal for Brampton. Vallorani fed the puck to Traccitto in the slot for a one-timer past Brittain to end the game, 6-5.
The Monarchs return to the ice Saturday, Feb. 25 (6 p.m.), when they host the Alaska Aces for the first time in franchise history on American Pride Night.
