Komets Net Five Unanswered to Prevail over Indy 5-1

INDIANAPOLIS - In their sixth meeting of the season and the second one in Indianapolis, the Indy Fuel scored early only to surrender five consecutive Fort Wayne strikes as the Komets defeated the home team, 5-1.

Left wing Josh Shalla fired his 24th goal of the season at the 7:10 mark of the opening stanza to lift his club into a 1-0 advantage. It was Shalla's 8th goal in 5-outings this season against the Fort Wayners. However, Indy's 1-0 lead was short-lived as the Komets bounced right back with a pair of goals 1:37 apart, a mere 2:37 after the Shalla goal.

Jason Binkley and Trevor Cheek were the victors' marksmen as Fort Wayne outshot the Fuel in the opening frame of the game, 20-4.

Garret Thompson and Gabriel Desjardins connected in the second period before Colin Mulvey completed the Komets comeback counterattack with the only goal of the third period. The Komets have outscored the Fuel in the third period through 6-meetings this season, 17-3. They outshot Indy, 45-28 with Jake Hildebrand making 40-saves while his counterpart Garrett Bartus posted his 4th consecutive triumph against the Fuel who remain winless in 6-decisions this season against the Komets at 6(0-5-1).

It was the Fuel's 5th consecutive setback at home where they last won on January 27th in a 2-0 shutout triumph over Rapid City.

Next action for the Fuel will be Saturday night in Cincinnati where they will renew hostilities with the Cyclones in a 7:30 face-off. Then it's on to Toledo where the Fuel will make their first appearance of the campaign in a 5:15 duel against the Central Division Walleye.

Both games will be broadcast live on CBS Sports 1430.

Next home action for Indy will be next Friday night, March 3rd, 7:35 at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum Against the Wheeling Nailers.
