ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES

Tonight, the Royals face the Royals face the Adirondack Thunder for the ninth of what will be eleven total matchups over the course of the 2016-17 regular season. . Reading has compiled a record of 6-1-0-1 against the Thunder so far and have gone 3-0-0-1 in the four games played here at Glens Falls Civic Center. This is the final matchup of the regular season here at the GFCC between the Royals and Thunder. The two teams will meet up twice more-both in Reading-in back-to-back games on March 24 and 25. The Royals won the most recent contest between Reading and Adirondack here in Glens Falls back on Valentine's Day-February 14-by a score of 6-5 in a shootout. That game marked the third time in the season series between these two clubs that the game required extra time for resolution. Reading beat Adirondack in overtime 2-1 on January 20; and the Thunder won the first shootout between these two teams (3-2) here at the GFCC on January 24.

The Royals are coming off a 5-3 loss to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at Santander Arena in Reading on Wednesday, which served to snap a three game winning streak for the Royals and push the team's record back to thirteen games over .500 (31-18-1-265). Reading remains in second place in the hotly contested North Division. Reading comes into tonight's game riding a five game road winning streak-and a six game road unbeaten streak (5-0-0-1), which dates back to a 3-2 shootout loss to the Thunder here in Glans Falls on January 24.

The Royals fell behind in Wednesday's game to the Swamp Rabbits fifteen seconds after the opening face-off on a goal by former Royal Brandon Alderson. That is the quickest goal scored by the opposition into a game this season. The goal tied the Royals' team record for the fastest goal ever scored against the team on home ice. On January 11, 2008, Kevin Croxton of the Wheeling Nailers scored fifteen seconds into what proved to be a 7-4 loss for the Royals to the Nailers. The Royals have compiled a record of 9-12-0-2 when giving up the first goal of the game.

Wednesday's loss dropped Reading's record to 0-3-0-0 against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits and 4-8-0-0 against teams from the South Division this season. The Royals will face Greenville in Reading on Sunday (@ 6:00 pm) in the final regular season game between the two teams. Reading has eight more games to be played against teams from the South-one against Greenville and seven against the Norfolk Admirals.

The 5-3 loss to Greenville marked the eleventh time this season that Reading has given up five or more goals against (2-9-0-0) (although admittedly one of the goals in that game was a late-game empty netter awarded by the referee to Greenville)-and five of those games have come in the last nine played by the team. Nonetheless, Reading has compiled a 2.88 team goals against average, which is third best in the league.

Reading's penalty kill blanked the Swamp Rabbits' power play on two chances with the man advantage on Wednesday. That marked the seventh consecutive game in which the Royals have kept the opposition's PP off the board. Reading has killed twenty-five consecutive PP chances for the opposition. Over the last thirty-six games (25-10-0-1), the Royals' PK has killed 108 of the last 118 power play chances the team has faced (91.5%). In the last twenty games played at Santander Arena, Reading has allowed just three power play goals against in sixty-one chances for the opposition on the power play, which is a 95.1% kill ratio. Reading's PK has blanked the opposition twenty-nine times this year, and the team has compiled a record of 18-10-0-1 in those games.

Ian Watters scored the Royals' first two goals in Wednesday's game to cut the team's deficit from 3-0 to 3-2 in the latter stages of the second period. That was Watters' first multi-goal performance of the season and his fifth multi-point game. Watters, who is in his fourth season with the Royals, has played in 179 total games with the team-fifth most in team history (and twelve behind Bryant Molle for fourth). Wednesday's two-goal performance marked the first multi-goal performance as a Royal ever for Watters, who has registered 71 points (17g-54a) and 198 penalty minutes in his time with the team. Watters did register a two-goal game as a member of the Idaho Steelheads in his rookie season back on March 13, 2013 in a 4-3 overtime victory for the Steelheads over the Alaska Aces. Watters, who generated a personal season high six shots on goal on Wednesday, is riding a four game point streak (2g-3a5pts).

Jesper Pettersson scored the Royals' third goal to draw the team within one (at 4-3) 6:23 into the third period on Wednesday. Pettersson also picked up an assist on Watters' second goal to register his third multi-point game of the season.

Tyrell Goulbourne, who picked up an assist on Watters' first goal on Wednesday, has eight points (4g-4a) in his last nine games.

Mike Pereira, who picked up an assist on Pettersson's goal on Wednesday, has nine points (5g-4a) in his last eleven games played.

Goaltender Mark Dekanich started Wednesday's game and played the first period, allowing three goals on seventeen shots in twenty minutes. He was not the goaltender of record. Martin Ouellette came on in substitution in that game, playing the final two periods allowing just one goal on fifteen shots; however, because the goal he allowed proved to be the game winner, he was saddled with the loss. In twenty-three games with the Royals, Ouellette has compiled a record of 12-8-0-1 with a 2.61 goals against average (eighth best in the league) and a .913 save percentage.
