HERSHEY, PA - Goaltender Michael Mole kicked aside 34 regulation and overtime shots, then slammed the door shut in the shootout to lift the Bridgeport Sound Tigers over the Hershey Bears 3-2 at Giant Center on Saturday. Mole, in his first Sound Tigers' game of the season and second American Hockey League appearance of his career, earned first star of the game accolades. The Sound Tigers improved to 3-1-0-1 and handed the defending Calder Cup champion Bears (4-0-0-1) their first loss of the season.

Saturday's game marked the Sound Tigers' second consecutive shootout affair a night after a loss to Hartford. Sergei Ogorodnikov, Peter Ferraro and Luch Aquinio all scored in the shootout. Mole avenged Tomas Fleischmann's regulation breakaway tally by making a glove save on Fleischmann in the shootout and saved the game with a sparkling save in overtime.

The Sound Tigers built a 2-0 lead on a first period goal by Peter Ferraro and a second-period net-finder by Jeff Tambellini on a delayed penalty. The goals were the third of the campaign for both Ferraro and Tambellini.

Mole had a shutout through most of the first two periods before the Bears struck twice in the final 2:18 of the middle stanza. Alexandre Giroux, who had one of Hershey's goals, was robbed by Mole, a recent call-up from Pensacola of the East Coast Hockey League, on a diving glove save in overtime.

The Sound Tigers' penalty killing units put together another strong performance, holding Hershey scoreless on seven man advantages. Bridgeport has killed off 40 of 44 opponent power plays to start the year.

The Sound Tigers return to Bridgeport to host Springfield at 4 p.m. on Sunday on Pink Rink Night to benefit the American Cancer Society. For ticket information, including group discount opportunities, visit soundtigers.com or call 334-4625.
