P-Bruins Defeated in Overtime

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, member of the American Hockey League, were defeated by the Manchester Monarchs 3-2 in overtime at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Saturday night. The P-Bruins got goals from Pascal Pelletier and Sean Curry.

Providence opened the scoring 7:53 into the first period with Pelletier's third goal of the season while also extending the team's streak of man-advantage goals to all five games this season. Assists went to David Krejci and Petr Tenkrat, the first of two for each on the evening.

The P-Bruins maintained the 1-0 lead until 2:58 into the second frame when Matt Moulson knotted the game up with his first professional goal, also coming on the power-play after a Providence bench minor for two many men on the ice. Exactly eight minutes later, the Monarchs jumped out to a 2-1 advantage with another extra-attacker goal, this time working with a 5-on-3 benefit. Lauri Tukonen was credited with the goal, his first of two on the night.

Sean Curry brought Providence to a 2-2 tie 3:24 into the final period of regulation after he followed up his own rebound against Monarchs goalie Jason LaBarbara for his first goal of the year. The contest went to overtime, with Manchester prevailing 3-2 on Tukonen's second goal as the Monarchs out-shot the P-Bruins 6-1 in the extra session.

Shots were even at 30 apiece with LaBarbara making 28 saves to the 27 for Providence goaltender Brian Finley. The Monarchs were three of 11 on the man-advantage while the P-Bruins scored once in six attempts. The two teams combined for 64 penalty minutes.
