
Bulldogs doubled by Rivermen

HAMILTON, ON - The Peoria Rivermen's special teams accounted for all four of their goals, three power-play markers and one shorthanded tally, as they downed the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-2 on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum. With the loss, the Bulldogs record drops to 1-4-0-0 through five games this season.
Peoria took a 2-0 first period lead with two power-play goals. David Backes opened the scoring at 11:11 of the first frame for the Rivermen. Mike Glumac rounded out the first period scoring at the 14:06 mark for Peoria.
Hamilton's Michael Lambert scored on a backhand rebound off a Matt D'Agostini shot at 5:06 of the second period to narrow the score to 2-1. Corey Locke also received an assist on the goal, his 69th career helper, moving past former Bulldog Joe Hulbig into 10th place in Bulldogs All-time assists.
The Rivermen added their third power-play goal of the game at the 12:01 mark of the second period when Backes tallied his second marker of the night to give Peoria a 3-1 lead.
The Bulldogs pulled within a goal for the second time when Maxim Lapierre scored his third goal of the season at 13:20 of the second period. Patrick Traverse picked up his first point of the season by adding an assist on the goal.
Peoria then rounded out the scoring on the night when Cam Keith posted a shorthanded goal at the 16:17 mark of the final frame.
Bulldogs goaltender Jaroslav Halak stopped 26 of 30 shots he faced in a losing effort. Rivermen netminder Marek Schwarz made 31 saves on 33 shots and picked up the victory.
Hamilton was 0-8 on the power play while Peoria went 3-5 with the man advantage.
The Bulldogs next action takes place on Wednesday, October 25th at 7:30 p.m. against their North Division rivals the Toronto Marlies at Copps Coliseum.
