Rockland County, NY - Kevonte Mitchell hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning to lift the New York Boulders to a 6-4 win over the Tri-City Valley Cats on Labor Day, Monday, at Palisades Credit Union Park.

The win came in the Boulders' final home game of the 2021 season.

Max Smith led off the eighth for the Boulders by drawing a walk off Valley Cats' reliever Francisco Jiminez. After Phil Capra bunted Smith to second, Jiminez struck out Phil Caulfield for the second out.

The Valley Cats then opted to walk Jack Sundberg to face Mitchell, who blasted his 12th home run of the season into the left field bleachers.

Tri-City rallied from a three-run deficit, taking a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning. A Juan Silverio two-run home run, his 14th of the season, cut the Boulders' lead to 3-2 in the sixth inning. In the next frame, with two outs, Connor Lien's single was followed by a walk to Jake Barbee.

Carlos Machado then singled Lien in with the tying run - and also brought Boulders' starter Robby Rowland's day to an end. Dylan Smith cam in to face Denis Phipps and unleashed a wild pitch that allowed Barbee to score the run that put Tri-City up 4-3.

Smith would strike out Phipps to end the inning.

The rally spoiled a splendid outing by Rowland, who did not allow a hit until Luis Roman singled with two out in the fifth inning. He finished allowing five hits and four runs while walking two and striking out seven.

The Boulders had jumped in front 2-0 in the second inning. Tucker Nathans led off with a double before Marcus Mastrobuoni walked. Ray Hernandez followed with a single to left field that was bobbled by Jake Barbee, the misplay allowing Nathans to score the afternoon's first run. Two batters later, Capra's single plated Mastrobuoni.

In the third, the Boulders made it 3-0 when Mitchell, who had left off the frame with a double, scored when Tri-City hurler Logan Dubbe, who had come on to relieve starter Bryan Valdez to face Mastrobuoni with runners on the corners, induced a double play grounder.

Smith picked up the win for New York - it was his first decision of the season, while Tanner Kiest tossed a scoreless ninth to record his sixth save of the year.

Jiminez was tagged with the loss, falling to 5-4.
