WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 25, 2011) - Jared Mitchell started a four-run rally in the third inning with an RBI triple, drove in another run later in the game, and Winston-Salem was able to hang to a 5-3 win against comeback-minded Kinston on Monday night at BB&T Ballpark. The victory moves the Dash within 3.5 games of the first place Indians in the Carolina League Southern Division.

Winston (15-15, 47-53) jumped on the scoreboard against K-Tribe starter Clayton Cook. Daniel Wagner walked with one out, and scored on Jared Mitchell's league-leading seventh triple of the season. Andy Wilkins then walked before Ian Gac popped out to center field. Mike Blanke followed with a line-drive single to score Mitchell, and then Nick Ciolli doubled in Wilkins and Blanke to put four on the board for the Dash.

The Indians (18-11, 56-41) responded in the fourth when Adam Abraham singled and scored when Chase Burnette homered.

Aside from the home run, Dash starter Matt Wickswat kept the K-Tribe silent through seven innings. He struck out a season-high eight batters in his second seven-inning start of the season.

Before Wickswat left the game, the Dash offense added another insurance run. In the sixth inning, Austin Yount reached on an infield single and later came around to score on a single by Mitchell.

Kinston mounted a rally in the eighth inning. Andre Rienzo was activated off the disabled list earlier in the day and made his first appearance for the Dash since July 7. He walked Delvi Cid and Tyler Holt to start the inning before inducing a ground out from Casey Frawley. The runners moved to second and third, and Rienzo was pulled for Taylor Thompson. Tyler Cannon walked to start Thompson's outing before Abraham struck out. With two outs and Abner Abreu batting, Thompson unleashed a wild pitch to score Cid and pull the Indians within two. Abreu then lined out to end the threat.

Thompson put the tying runs aboard in the ninth inning, but struck out Holt to end the ballgame and picked up his 11th save of the season. Wickswat (4-1) got the win. Cook (6-7) was hit with the loss after 3.2 innings where he gave up four runs (all earned) on five hits.

Winston-Salem and Kinston continue their four-game series on Tuesday night at BB&T Ballpark at 7 p.m. RHP Cameron Bayne (8-4, 3.39) throws for the Dash opposite RHP Brett Brach (6-6, 2.95).
