Mistakes Costly in Ugly Loss to Beloit

Clinton LumberKings News Release
Beloit, WI "" With only a handful of games remaining in the 2013 regular season, the LumberKings are starting to back their way towards the finish line. Three costly errors contributed to a 7-4 loss in Beloit to start the seven-game road trip.
The good news, however, is Peoria and Wisconsin lost Saturday as well. Clinton's lead for the final spot in the Western Division Playoffs is three games and their "magic number" is seven.
Beloit jumped on the board in the first on Clinton's first error of the game. Starter Tyler Pike loaded the bases but got a routine groundball for a possible double play but Martin Peguero's relay throw on the turn was dropped by first baseman Taylor Ard. Instead of a scoreless first, Ryan Mathews and Daniel Robertson both scored.
Clinton fought back in the second when Janelfry Zorrilla laced a two-out, two-run single to even the game at 2-2.
It remained deadlocked at two until Clinton took the lead in the sixth inning. With Brock Hebert at first, Martin Peguero doubled down the left field line. The throw into second got away from Christopher Bostick allowing Hebert to score the go-ahead run.
The lead didn't last long as John Wooten started the bottom of the sixth with a homer to left off Rigoberto Garcia. Garcia then allowed a single to Matt Olson but came back to get back-to-back outs. With two outs, Aaron Shipman hit a routine grounder to second but an errant throw by Jamodrick McGruder allowed the inning to continue.
It came back to hurt when Ryan Mathews hit a two-run double that landed in left field in the middle of Dario Pizzano, Brock Hebert and Peguero.
Beloit added single tallies in the seventh and eighth and eventually held a 7-3 lead. Clinton scored a run in the ninth on Pizzano's RBI double but it wasn't enough as the LumberKings dropped their third straight.
The series continues Sunday afternoon in Beloit. The LumberKings send left-hander Steven Ewing (1-0, 5.40) against Beloit right-hander Dylan Covey (0-1, 4.23). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM CT.
