
Missions Drop Friday Night Doubleheader in Tulsa

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions continued their six-game series against the Tulsa Drillers on Friday night. After rain postponed the game on Thursday, the two clubs played a doubleheader. The Drillers allowed just one run across both games and secured the Friday night sweep. Game one ended in a 4-0 shutout victory for Tulsa and game two ended with a 2-1 final.
For game one, Efrain Contreras took the mound for the Missions and he was opposed by Emmet Sheehan for the Drillers. Contreras allowed the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs in the frame, Jose Ramos hit a solo home run. His sixth long ball of the season gave Tulsa an early advantage.
Contreras lasted four innings while allowing the lone run. He gave up two hits in total while striking out three batters. Sheehan on the other hand tossed five scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out eight batters.
The Drillers added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Facing Alek Jacob, Eddys Leonard drew a leadoff walk and stole second base with one out in the frame. After advancing to third base with two outs, he came in to score on a single from Jonny DeLuca.
Tulsa made it a 4-0 ballgame in the bottom of the sixth inning. Facing Justin Lopez, Andy Pages drew a leadoff walk. Following Pages, Imanol Vargas hit a two-run home run. It was his fifth long ball of the season.
The San Antonio offense collected just three hits on their way to their third shutout loss of the season.
In game two, Nolan Watson took the mound for San Antonio against Landon Knack for the Drillers. Neither club scored until the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out in the frame, Carson Taylor hit a go-ahead solo home run. It was his first home run of the season.
San Antonio tied the game in the top of the sixth inning. Facing Knack, Jorge Ona doubled to start the frame. After striking out Chandler Seagle, Ray-Patrick Didder singled and drove in Ona. That was the end of the night for Knack.
The Drillers regained the lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning. With Watson still on the mound, DeLuca doubled to start the inning. After recording a fly out, a balk from Watson advanced DeLuca to third base. Pages hit a double to drive in the go-ahead run.
In the top of the seventh inning, John Rooney retired all three Missions batters to secure the second victory of the night.
In 5.1 innings of work, Watson allowed two runs on four hits while striking out two batters. For Knack, he lasted 5.1 innings while allowing a run. He struck out five batters while allowing three hits.

Right-hander Nick Frasso (1-1, 1.23) is scheduled to pitch for the Drillers. First pitch is slated for 7:05 a.m. from ONEOK Field.
