Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Despite scoring four runs in the first inning, the Hooks fell 8-5 to the San Antonio Missions Thursday at Whataburger Field.
The Hooks brought eight men to the plate in the first against Pedro Avila, highlighted by a Corey Julks two-run blast (10) and a two-run single by Enmanuel Valdez in his first Double-A at-bat.
Cesar Salazar's RBI double in the third opened it back to 5-2. But Freure gave up a solo homer to Esteury Ruiz and back-to-back RBI doubles to Aldahir Cordoba and Kyle Overstreet to tie the game.
Freure was tagged for eight hits and five runs (four earned) over 4.1 innings.
The game remained even until the ninth when the Missions plated three runs against Felipe Tejada, capped by Dwanya Williams-Sutton's go-ahead RBI single.
Angel Macuare was impressive - albeit erratic - in his first Double-A appearance, fanning four and walking four while allowing one walk over 3.0 scoreless frames.
Salazar and Alex Holderbach each went 2-for-4 to lead the Hooks. Julks now has six homers and 10 RBIs in 16 August contests.
Cordoba was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored for San Antonio.
The teams square off again Friday with Brett Daniels going for the home side. Corpus Christi kicks off Whataburger Weekend with a Whataburger PEZ Dispenser giveaway for the first 4,000 fans.
